OKC Thunder star Russell Westbrook activity extends off the court with his busy lifestyle. This past weekend featured store openings, basketball camps and EYBL championship.

Russell Westbrook is a bonafide superstar on and off the court. Throughout the week and over the weekend Westbrook hosted his 6th annual Why Not? basketball camps in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Little Ark – store opening:

In-between tutoring young campers Westbrook was on hand as his wife Nina Marie Westbrook, opened her first store, it’s called the Little Ark. According to the store’s Instagram bio, it is a boutique that offers stylish and clever gifts. As well as fun classes and events for kids and their parents.

The soft opening of the Little Ark was held July 14 with Russell and son Noah on hand. Doors are officially set to open July 16th.

Nike Peach Jam Finals:

Last, but not the least, Westbrook’s EYBL (elite youth basketball league) squad team Why Not? made the 2018 Nike Peach Jam finals. Westbrook was not present for the entire week-long high school basketball tournament due to his commitments in Oklahoma City. But, fear not Westbrook’s brother Raynard ‘Ray’ Westbrook was on hand supporting team Why Not.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Team Why Not lost in the championship game making them the runner-up to Team Takeover. Coincidentally Team Takeover is sponsored by former OKC Thunder guard Victor Oladipo. The final score in the championship game was 78-96 as team Takeover won in convincing fashion.

Furthermore, while the Nike Peach Jam is in its 23rd year the EYBL is not even a decade old yet. Nike launched the EYBL in 2010, ever since the Peach Jam has served as a tournament to determine a league champion.

Let’s go to camp:

Westbrook holds annual youth basketball camps in Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, and in years recent Tulsa joined the list. However, this year Westbrook only has camps listed in Oklahoma City and Tulsa on his official camp website.

According to the website, each camper receives a free camp t-shirt and shorts, one picture with Westbrook, one autograph from Russ and a bonus surprise. Typically the surprise is a pair of brand name headphones. In recent years, the headphones were provided by skull candy.

Most importantly during these camps, Westbrook and his team create memories that will last a lifetime for the campers who attend. Furthermore, the one downside to Westbrook’s busy summer schedule is it takes time away from rest and relaxation. With the grind that is known as the NBA starting back up when training camp opens in September time is of the essence.

One important aspect from last summer is Westbrook waited until just before training camp to receive a PRP injection. Westbrook missed all of training camp and the majority of pre-season because of the mild procedure.

Maybe he didn’t need the injection earlier in the offseason or perhaps he put it off to take on higher priorities. Either way, let’s hope there is not a repeat of last year because chemistry counts for something and it all begins when camp opens in roughly two months.
