OKC Thunder Rumors: Daniel Hamilton to sign with Atlanta Hawks
OKC Thunder point guard Daniel Hamilton exits to sign a one year guaranteed deal with Atlanta Hawks.
With the OKC Thunder landing Dennis Schroder the backcourt got an infusion of help for Russell Westbrook. Earlier this offseason the team re-signed Raymond Felton in free agency. These moves led to the backcourt filling up with three capable point guards.
That left no room for Daniel Hamilton to return unless the OKC Thunder were going to attempt to sign Hamilton on a two-way contract. The other option was to ask the guard if he’d like to join the OKC Blues. At this stage however, Hamilton has progressed sufficiently for his services to be desirable for other squads in a full time capacity.
Enter the Atlanta Hawks who took an interest and subsequently offered Hamilton a one year deal. The important aspect of this deal is that it’s guaranteed.
OKC Blues nurtured Hamilton:

Hamilton played his college ball in Connecticut prior to being selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 56th pick in the 2016 NBA draft. The UConn guard landed with the OKC Thunder via a draft night trade via a cash deal orchestrated by Sam Presti.
Over the past two seasons Hamilton was able to expand his game via the OKC Thunder G-League affiliate the OKC Blues. Last season Hamilton was on one of the Thunder’s two, 2-way contracts.
Although Hamilton was eligible to play 45 games with the varsity squad he made just six appearances. His averages in those games were 2.0 points and 1.3 assists over the course of 4.7 minutes
Meanwhile in two seasons with the OKC Blues Hamilton was a player who often emulated Westbrook in terms of his triple-double performances. Specifically Hamilton played in 94 games over the two season with averages 94 games with per game averages of 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists. Impressive numbers.
Granted, moving to a varsity squad doesn’t guarantee success. With the Hawks however, the point guard will have an opportunity to grow with a young rebuilding squad.
The team at Thunderous Intentions wishes Daniel Hamilton all the best with his new squad and thanks him for the fond memories he generated while in OKC.
