OKC Thunder: Ironic twist of Kevin Durant adding snake emoji in social media

OKC Thunder fans often label Kevin Durant a snake, so when he sent a snake emoji to teammate DeMarcus Cousins fans noted the irony.

Many OKC Thunder fans were devastated when Kevin Durant bolted for the Golden State Warriors two summers ago. Others were outraged because Durant gave zero warning. In fact at the infamous dinner he had with Russell Westbrook and Nick Collison the pair left feeling KD would be back.

A week later Durant was gone and worse left to join the Thunder’s nemesis. What made the situation untenable was KD didn’t give the franchise who treated him with nothing but respect any options. Presti wasn’t afforded an opportunity to spin some magic via a sign and trade. Nor was OKC as it turns out ever truly on Duran’ts short list.

Instead Durant exited to join the super team enemy. The same squad the OKC Thunder led 3-1 in the playoffs. In hindsight it felt like rock salt being pushed directly into an open cut. As each new tidbit was uncovered about Durant’s departure his reputation took a beating.

First, fans learned Durant was pulling for the Warriors to lose to the Cavaliers presumably so his joining GSW would be more palatable than signing with a championship squad.

Then Draymond Green (and later KD himself) outed Durant’s confirmation call less than an hour after the Cavaliers won. And, fans learned this was an ongoing recruitment session over the entire year.

Suddenly the exchanges between Green and Durant as well as hugs with Curry at the end of the series took on a whole new meaning.

OKC Thunder fans were rightfully ticked and the initial ‘cupcake’ shade was exchanged with most disenchanted fans referring to him as a snake. Many tweets featured the snake emoji. Even when Durant traveled to India on behalf of the NBA one young Indian fan at his public appearance held a sign with a snake emoji on it.

So, the irony of Kevin Durant sending out a tweet with a snake emoji to a teammate no less, resonates in OKC. Turns out his newest Warriors’ teammate DeMarcus ‘Boogie’ Cousins asked for the snake emoji.

The reason for Cousins request?

Turns out Cousins was pumped over rapper Drake donning a LeFlore Magnet High School basketball jersey in his recent music video. Cousins hometown is Mobile,Alabama and that was the high school he attended. The basketball nickname was The Rattlers which is what you see Drake wearing.

Cousins posted a snippet from the video with Drake clad in the Rattlers shirt on his instagram account and requested fans add a snake emoji This was a hat tip from Cousins to his high school alumni and former team.

Which explains how Kevin Durant went from being shaded with snake emoji’s to the place where the star is sending social media with snake emoji’s to his new teammate.

The satiric sense of the situation can’t be ignored by his former teams fans. If nothing else it provides a few giggles for Thunder Nation.
