With no games for the OKC Thunder or their NBA opponents for another month plus, the CJ – K.D. super team debate is offering plenty of action.
Sorry OKC Thunder fans, it’s going to be another month plus (September 21 or 22) until NBA training camps open. In the interim watching scrimmages and training sessions will have to suffice.
That is all except those fixated on a certain off court debate between Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum and former OKC Thunder super star Kevin Durant. Social media has grasped the drama with all it’s nuances and Thunder Nation is also wrapped up in the ever unfolding drama.
Past and present OKC Thunder brotherhood:
Showcasing the point of how players develop bonds to one another several past and present OKC Thunder players are working together. Former OKC players at the session were Enes Katner and Carmelo Anthony. Existing Thunder player Raymond Felton was on hand and new OKC Thunder player Hamadou Diallo.
In the accompanying video Kanter’s post is funny since he’s guarding Melo. It’s kind of everything you ever want as an OKC Thunder fan: 1) Enes playing defense and 2) Melo going iso.
I’m trying, Jennifer!

If you’re a fan of the NBA and listen to podcasts it’s likely you’re aware of the ongoing friendly debate between Blazers CJ McCollum and for OKC Thunder now Warrior Kevin Durant. At the heart of their back and forth banter is the fact Durant left the OKC Thunder to play for a super star laden Warriors club.
The initial confrontation occurred just after Durant guested on McCollum’s podcast. A back and forth war of words followed via Twitter. Usually something like this will have a shelf life, but it’s continued to dominate social media.
And, there’s no sign of it letting up as McCollum is keeping it topical. Portland’s shooting guard recently was a guest on a CCTV Sports overseas and was asked again about the Warriors and their super team.
Asked if all players would want to join the Warriors as free agents, McCollum stated: “I would never do anything of that nature, it’s disgusting. I’m not built like those guys, I was raised differently.”
In follow-up the T.V. host asked “But, do you think that would be the future?” McCollum responded “No, I think some players will take that route, but most guys have too much pride, one to really win on their own, or their certain organizations that aren’t gonna just jump on the bandwagon.”
Adding more fuel to this topic a fan (Jennifer Williams) tweeted CJ in response to his depiction of being made out to be a bitter ex. Her tweet: “Win a playoff game then talk” was in reference to the Blazers getting swept in the first round this past playoffs to the New Orleans Pelicans.
McCollum’s response to Jennifer was deliciously humorous:
His tweet went viral and then the followup tweet by McCollum took it to a whole new stratosphere. To the point the original tweeter is now selling the shirts:

The debate on this subject has fans firmly on one side or the other. McCollum is specifically talking about players like Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins joining super teams who in KD’s case had won 73 games the season prior and who the OKC Thunder failed to close out after leading 3-1. And, in Cousins case another All-Star who is debated as being the best offensive center in the league.
In the middle of August with no games available and training camp still more than a month away this is about the best action ball fans have at their disposal.
