Former Thunder teammates Westbrook, Harden put on show at JH celebrity game

Former OKC Thunder guard James Harden celebrity game showcased his chemistry with Russell Westbrook remains strong.

During the recent Team USA basketball mini camp Russell Westbrook and former OKC Thunder teammate Kevin Durant got into a little scuffle on while practicing. The fact they are talking at all is progress, but let’s just say their relationship is cool (as in chilly). In contrast Westbrook’s relationship with former teammate and childhood friend James Harden remains solid.

The duo grew both grew up in Los Angeles, meeting as youngsters and have been close ever since. While they are competitive whenever the OKC Thunder and Rockets meet, any league function they both attend it’s common to see the pair side by side. So many of the current stars are from LA including Westbrook’s teammate Paul George and DeMar DeRozan who is also close to Harden and Westbrook.

This trio put on a big show Sunday at Harden’s celebrity game. This event was the feature of the MVP’s second annual JH-Town weekend. All events were for charity and the game played at Texas Southern occurred at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the event will go toward Harden’s educational foundation which provides academic support to local Houston children. Given the stars efficiency from the perimeter and patented step back the charity is aptly named “3 The Harden Way”.

A comedy show opened the three day event on Friday at the Arena Theatre featuring the talents of DeRay Davis, DC Young Fly and Michael Blackson. Saturday featured a softball game with Rockets teammate Chris Paul in attendance as well as Travis Scott and Meek Mill.

Other NBA players at the Sunday game were the Morris twins – Marcus and Markieff, Tyreke Evans and Gerald Green. Check out the youtube video above as the LA trio of Westbrook, DeRozan and Harden all delivered some deep treys, dunks and nifty paint work.

One undeniable fact however is the chemistry between Westbrook and Harden is exactly the same as it was back when the both wore the same jersey in OKC. The game came down to the final shot and although it was a charity game it was evident even in this setting Westbrook still brings ferocity to the hardwood and still wants to win.
