Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is an artist.
He may be new to the OKC Thunder roster, but not to the NBA… or his sketchpad. Since childhood, Luwawu-Cabarrot has enjoyed drawing, despite the lack of formal training.
He told Jessica Camerato of NBCSports:
"“When I was a kid in school, I was just gifted…I just kind of liked it and kept doing it the whole year.”"
In an interview with Camerato, Luwawu-Cabarrot shared images from his sketchbook, including an intricately detailed sketch of a giraffe, a replication of a childhood photograph, and a drawing of a late pet.
Incidentally, Luwawu-Cabarrot isn’t the first artist to wear an OKC Thunder jersey. Desmond Mason, who had a brief stint with the Thunder the 2008-’09 season before retiring, majored in studio art in college and even considered becoming an art teacher.
He now works with several art mediums, from oil paint to ceramics. In 2004, Mason formed the Desmond Mason Art Show to support charitable organizations. And, he even had some artwork on display at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum.
