There’s an Olympic medalist in our midst.
Alejandro “Alex” Abrines Redondo is famous in Oklahoma City and Spain. In fact, the 6’6″ Abrines played professionally in Spain before coming to the United States.
From 2010-’12, Abrines played for Clinicas Rincon and Unicaja before being traded to FC Barcelona in July of 2012. From there, he was selected by Oklahoma City with the 32nd pick in the 2013 draft.
Abrines re-signed with Barcelona in 2015, playing four seasons for Barcelona and winning three title. Eventually, Abrines parted ways with Barcelona, but not before being named the EuroLeague Rising Star.
During his time with the junior national teams of Spain, Abrines competed at the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championships, where he won the gold medal and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He was also named the tournament’s MVP.
Later, in 2012, Abrines won bronze in the 2012 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and went on to compete in the Rio Olympics in 2016. At those Olympic Games, Abrines won a bronze medal.
