No. 7: DJ to Russ

I swear, sometimes it seems like Russ is trying more to jump into space rather than to dunk a basketball. It’s almost like the basketball part of the dunk becomes secondary the moment he leaves the ground. Like he’s competing with himself over how high he can jump and how much force he can jump with. The dunk part is just extra.

I think the best part of this one though, is that DJ Augustin knows that. There’s a split second where he realizes Russ is trailing him and sees the potential for an earth-shattering play. He knows how high Russ is going to jump. He can sense it. He wouldn’t just throw an alley-oop this ambitious if he didn’t think the dunker was going to get it, after all. That connection between teammates and that confidence in one another is a beautiful thing.
