NBA star Blake Griffin returned home to Oklahoma City this weekend to visit  Oklahoma University’s newest facility ‘Griffin Family Performance Centre’.

For the OKC Thunder faithful one of the stars outside of their own team which fans keep an eye on is Blake Griffin. That’s because Griffin is a native  Oklahoman and stayed local attending Oklahoma University for his college tenure.

Griffin spent two seasons as a Sooner and was earmarked as one of the top athletes of his draft class. While at OU Griffin was a star winning copious awards including AP, Big 12, NABC, Sporting News and USBWA Player of the Year.  Additionally, Griffin won the RUPP Trophy, Wooden Award and was named by consensus to the All American first team.

Upon entering the professional ranks Griffin was selected as the top draft pick by the LA Clippers. Due to injury his rookie season was postponed to 2010-11 where the forward went on to win Rookie of the Year.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Last summer following seven seasons in LA the Clippers worked out a contract which appeared to be aligning the team and star as the franchise’s future ‘it’ man. Then part way through the season a sudden and unexpected trade landed Griffin in Detroit with the Pistons.

Blake Griffin stadium dedication:

As Blake Griffin prepares for his first full season in Detroit his goal is to make a mark in the Eastern Conference and return his squad to the postseason.

This past weekend Griffin was in town to dedicate the Griffin Family Performance Centre. Originally the plans were to name the center after Blake, but since his brother Taylor also attended Oklahoma University he requested only the family name be used.

Plans are for the Pistons to practice at the facility prior to the preseason game with the OKC Thunder on October 3. Griffin made a donation to the facility, but the amount has been withheld.

Blake is extremely proud of the facility stating the centre is top notch with all the modern tools for kids to utilize as they build their games with hopes of entry to the professional ranks.
