OKC Thunder: Goals for Donte Grantham and Richard Solomon to impress in camp

Because of his hyper versatility, Donte Grantham has the best shot on this list of making an immediate impact wherever he ends up playing next year–and it’ll more than likely be a few different places. The Thunder are known for having do-it-all forward types who can impact the game in a variety of ways, which happens to be Grantham’s calling card.

Through his four years at Clemson, Grantham was consistently able to fill whatever gaps that the team happened to have. Whether as a secondary playmaker–1.9 assists per game throughout his career–a primary rebounder–6.9 rebounds per game–or even spot-up shooter–41.9 percent from three on 3.3 attempts per game last year–he could really do it all.

It’s that type of versatility that should make him an exceptional fit with the Thunder this year. Aside from Jerami Grant and Patrick Patterson, they don’t really have any reliable forwards who can wear more than one hat.

Though he’s just a rookie, he has a good shot at finding a way to be a dependable guy for the Thunder at some point down the line. To get there, however, he needs to prove that his big jump from his junior to senior year wasn’t a mere fluke.

He had a career year in 2017-2018, bolstering his shooting efficiency by leaps and bounds across the board and truly appearing like he had finally broken out before injuries cost him the last 12 games of his college tenure.

Proving that the improvement was real and that he truly can be the guy that he was for the first 19 games of the season is absolutely vital for him to hang around with the Thunder for a meaningful period of time.

If the OKC Thunder pick up Grantham it’s likely to be at the G-League level for the OKC Blue to track his development and potential to join the varsity club down the line.
