Fans got their first glimpse of the OKC Thunder camp roster via the annual Blue and White Scrimmage offering highlights, takeaways and plenty to ponder.

Thunder Nation got their first look at the 2018-19 OKC Thunder training camp roster via the annual Blue and White Scrimmage. Since we’re focused on colors it’s notable four missed the action as they nurse themselves back from black and blue injuries.

As expected neither Russell Westbrook or Andre Roberson were available. The two surprise exclusions were Alex Abrines (suffering from back spasms) and Abdel Nader (swollen knee). Although Nerlens Noel was cited as a potential exclusion due to foot soreness, the new backup center did participate.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Like any preseason game it’s important to put in perspective this is a starting point. Certainly it’s great to witness standout performances. But, equally important to temper expectations remembering most of the players are still not in game shape (hello Raymond Felton).

That said, taking everything into context there were obvious components of the offensive and defensive system already working well and clear areas requiring attention. There were also hints to what might be amplified once Westbrook returns.

Billy Donovan has multiple decisions to make of which the most important will be who starts at the power forward and shooting guard positions. OKC’s head coach is playing down this being something he’s worried about which could be “coach speak” for “it’s none of your business” or  a simple reality of everyone should be far more interested in who Donovan has on the court in the final five minutes.

Moving forward, the team will continue to practice with a key to the increased pace they desire and search out lineups and players who mesh well.

5 takeaways from annual scrimmage:

Thunderous Intentions writer Rylan Stiles served up his five top takeaways from the contest.

"Dennis Schroder played shooting guard with Raymond Felton handling the ball at times. Thunder fans have questioned if Schroder and Westbrook will play together once Russ returns, and that seems obvious."

George and Schroder shine:

Nick Gallo of the OKC Thunder official site offered up the game breakdown noting a Westbrook like statline from Schroder.

"Schröder led the White team’s starters and got off to a scintillating 7-of-7 shooting start from the field on his way to 22 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. George was electric as well, scoring a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with 8 rebounds and 6 assists."

Fox 23 Sports notes provided video highlights of and of Schroder and Paul George.

Next up the OKC Thunder get their first true taste of competition against someone other than each other when they play Pistons on Wednesday, October 3. Once again, the Thunder will host at Chesapeake with tip off at 7:00 p.m. central time.
