OKC Thunder – Topic: Thunder podcast – hot takes on preseason, NW breakdown
By Alex Roig
The OKC Thunder finally played some real basketball this week. Against real opponents. Here’s Topic: Thunder with a look back at the fist week of the preseason.
No longer do we have to wonder about the chemistry between Dennis Schroder and Steven Adams. Or about how a healthy Paul George would look like after having two surgeries this off-season. Or how the OKC Thunder would respond to not having Russell Westbrook. We now have tangible proof. At least, 2 games worth of evidence.
On episode 2 of The Weekly, we analyze the Thunder’s first two preseason games, which left Oklahoma City with a 1-1 record this week. We hit you with the positives and negatives from each game and dive into the stats.

- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Then we hit you with the Player of the Week, because, hey, two meaningless games is enough to evaluate the criteria for this type of award. I mean, it’s not like the player who wins will get a five percent bonus in his pay check.
On the next segment, we flip the script on you and get a little dark, highlighting the various injuries that have befallen the OKC Thunder this off-season and into training camp. We look at Abdel Nader‘s absence from action and talk about Andre Roberson’s set-back.
From there, we preview the Northwest Division, which will likely be the toughest division in basketball, in terms of collective strength of talent. With this Jimmy Butler situation be the death knell for Tom Thibodeau? Can Denver finally get over the hump and make the playoffs this season after two consecutive years of barely missing them? Was the sweep to New Orleans in the playoffs last season a sign of things to come for the Portland Trail Blazers? And can the Utah Jazz improve upon their showing in last season’s playoffs? Lots of big questions with lots of big answers.
