OKC Thunder: Top-five memorable season openers
Number five:
Okay, so it wasn’t a good start for the OKC Thunder in their inaugural season. Nor was it the best season in general. It was a great night for Oklahoma City otherwise because it was the first time the city had a team of its own.
Supporting the Hornets while New Orleans was being restored after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina served as a nice trial run for the NBA in OKC. But once the SuperSonics officially became the Thunder, it was love at first sight.
Since day one, Oklahoma City vaulted to become one of the most rabid fan bases in the NBA. And, that love all began in 2008-09 with a season opening match against the Milwaukee Bucks. The OKC Thunder took the first of 59 losses that year by the score of 98-87.
The Bucks were led by 20-point outings from Charlie Villanueva, Richard Jefferson and Michael Redd. OKC was led by Russell Westbrook and Chris Wilcox, who each scored 13 points off the bench.
