OKC Thunder: Top-five memorable season openers
Number four:
The 2013-14 season was a turning point for the OKC Thunder franchise for many reasons. It all began with a 101-98 win over Utah, which was highlighted by a 42-point outing from Kevin Durant.
The Thunder held a one-point lead with six seconds left in the fourth, before Durant iced the game with a pair of free throws. Russell Westbrook was recovering from his knee surgery at the time, but Reggie Jackson and Thabo Sefolosha came up big in his absence with 14 points apiece.
Durant would go on to win MVP that season, but couldn’t take the Thunder past the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. He averaged a career-high 32 points on 50 percent shooting with seven rebounds and five assists.
The Thunder finished second in the west behind San Antonio at 59-23 and went on to draft Steven Adams in the offseason. Andre Roberson saw the court in sprinkled minutes throughout his rookie year, and it was also the second to last year for head coach Scott Brooks and Durant in OKC.
