OKC Thunder trade: 5 targets who solve OKC’s shooting woes
Troy Daniels
Career 3-point percentage – 40.4
Total 3-point shots in 2017-18 – 458
3-point shots made per game – 2.3
3-point shots attempted per game- 5.8
3-point percentage in 2017-18 – 40
Similar to former Thunder sniper Anthony Morrow, Troy Daniels is a legitimate long-range bomber searching for a long-term home. The 27 year-old is unconscious from distance and will fire away if given a little bit of daylight.
Averaging a career high in points (8.9) for the Phoenix Suns last season, Daniels finished the year shooting 40.3 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 87.5 percent from the line. While his overall field goal percentage was low, it must be noted that 5.8 of 7.3 shots attempted were from beyond the arc.
In his best performance of his career, the veteran posted 32 points in the Suns 115-109 loss to the Toronto Raptors. He shot 11-16 from the field, 7-10 from three and 3-3 at the line.
With OKC fixated on playing in transition, a shooter of Daniels caliber is extremely valuable. The 27 year-old is a human flamethrower, capable of decimating opposing defenses once he gets hot. I previously previewed Daniels as a potential target during this years free agency and posted his greatest shooting performance while he was in Charlotte (click here).
With Oklahoma City capped out and the ridiculous number of shooters on Phoenix roster, prying Daniels away can be easily done without giving up anything of note. Given the Thunder’s horrid salary cap situation, Daniels is a low cost, high reward player who can be signed on a multi-year deal for cheap.
