The same could be said about the following season, as Abrines was a part of a bench that was the lowest scoring in the league. Even when Andre Roberson was ruled out for the season, Sam Presti was forced to sign free agent Corey Brewer to fill the hole at shooting guard.

Admittedly, This is being a bit harsh on Abrines considering the past two seasons have been a whirlwind. But, as a shooting specialist, shots have to go through the net in order to stay on the court. Especially since he’s a bit of a defensive liability, which is part of the reason Presti signed Brewer to replace Roberson last year.

If you asked me at the beginning of the season about Abrines’ future, I would have said with confidence he’s either on his way back to Spain or has a spot in the G-League until he can develop more consistency. What I didn’t expect was a pair of double-digit scoring games in the first month of the season, including a career-high 25 points against Charlotte.

So does the recent success warrant reconsideration? It certainly should earn him more playing time short term and consideration for the starting lineup in front of Terrance Ferguson while Roberson continues his rehab. If Abrines can keep it going, it could mean extension.
