OKC Thunder revert to bad habits as they drop a loss to the Dallas Mavericks on the road, ending their seven game winning streak.

OKC Thunder had a chance to extend their winning streak to as much as 12 before we matched up with the Golden State Warriors again. With games against the Mavericks, two against the Suns, Knicks, and Kings ahead it seemed not only possible, it seemed likely. But as the old saying goes….

Old habits die hard; and hard they did. All of last year the Thunder would defeat the mightiest teams. Golden State, Toronto, Houston, Cleveland. And, the OKC Thunder found a way to not only win but do so in convincing fashion. Then they would drop games to teams such as the Kings, the Suns, the Nets, and of course the Dallas Mavericks.

The teams would split the series 2-2 last year while the Mavs sit atop the Thunder 1-0 thus far this young NBA season.

Despite Russell Westbrook still missing  (listed as day-to-day) this game looked eerily similar to Mavs games of old.

More from Thunder News

They were led by a Rookie phenom Luka Doncic who posted 22 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds on 9 of15 shooting; and of course our favorite bench player in league had to routinely drop 21 points, 5 assists, and 3 boards off of the bench.

On the Thunder side of the ball, they were paced by Steven Adams who pitched in 20 points, and 13 rebounds on 8 of 11 shooting. While Paul George and Dennis Schröder both struggled shooting the ball each going 8 of 21 with 21 points and 19 points each.

There was however a bright spot in this game, after going down 24 points on a Doncic free throw with around 2 minutes left to play the OKC Thunder closed the first half on a 12-0 run. The run featured something the OKC Thunder were lacking in the rest of the game, ball movement. The ball hummed for the best shot, and when it didn’t fall Adams was there to clean it up.

Its a shame we weren’t able to capitalize on that run, and came out in the second half looking sluggish once again.

Remember guys, this is a good team. We just came out flat. With a Westbrook return looming, and four winnable games on the horizon better days are ahead for this team.

Well hopefully.
