OKC Thunder: 3 Takeaways following the 111-96 loss to the Dallas Mavericks
Give Steven Adams more shots
This is a classic case of addition by subtraction – subtract Oklahoma City’s ugly shots from deep and throw the ball to Steven Adams. While Adams has a strong game posting 20 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes, his scoring came on just 11 shots.
With the league going small, there’s no-one on the block who can bang with Adams down low. Now that the big Kiwi’s offensive repertoire is growing, Oklahoma City need to feed the big fella on the block.
On the play below, Adams physically dominates Dwight Powell and spins by him for the dunk,.
How about a jump hook?
The Thunder’s struggles shooting the ball from the perimeter are well documented therefore the better play is to pass the ball down low and beat defenses with player movement. OKC have a number of athletes on its roster who excel in cuts to the bucket or sky high for lobs.
With Adams passing game and offensive moves improving every game, give the ball to the big man in the post and let him dominate.
