Too many 3-point attempts

Yes, you read that correctly. Until OKC understand they can’t shoot three’s, they’ll continue to lose by launching triples willy nilly. If Oklahoma City are intent on firing from the perimeter, they should only be taken by Paul George, Alex Abrines or Patrick Patterson. Anyone else looking to chuck from range need to reminded why they shouldn’t.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Oklahoma City are the worst 3-point shooting team in league at 28.8 percent yet felt the need to launch 34 triples against the Mavs. Felton, Dennis Schroder and Terrance Ferguson combined to shoot 2-15 (13.3 percent) with Ray-Ray leading the 3-point charge with six attempts (second most behind PG13). Jerami Grant shot 1-2 from three but seems to understand his strengths and weaknesses, often turning down triples to drive to the cup.

PG13, PPat and Abrines combined to land six triples from 15 attempts for 40 percent with George leading the way with nine 3-point attempts. PG is having a rough time from deep averaging just 32.7 percent on 8.7 attempts. Abrines isn’t faring much better, averaging 33.9 percent on 4.9 attempts. Patterson is currently Oklahoma City’s best 3-point shooter averaging 38.1 percent on 3.5 attempts.

Here’s his lone 3-point make after some great ball movement from PG and Felton.

OKC should be looking to give him the bulk of the attempts since he’s the only one hitting them with regularity.

Oklahoma City need to get back to their identity – dominate on the defensive end, get out on the break and physically overpower opponents inside.
