The OKC Thunder made short order of the Knicks to claim their ninth victory. Takeaways reflect on what went right, depth and the City Edition jersey debut.
In ten games, the OKC Thunder lost just once. The ninth victory came courtesy of the New York Knicks and while expected it offered plenty of fodder on the growth the team has made since beginning the season 0-4.
As for obvious lessons the Thunder are defeating the teams they should. That might seem like a throwaway comment. However, one needs only glance back to last season to see how losses against the underlings put extra pressure on the squad to get late season wins.
Even the loss against the Mavericks isn’t as dire as initially thought with Dallas winning four of their last five. Nor is it unusual for teams to lose after amassing several wins in a row. If it was that simple there would be copious double-digit win streaks by all the top teams.
For example, the Warriors and Raptors sit atop their respective conferences with 12-3 records. Both squads posted win streak of eight and six respectively until recently when they each lost games to teams theoretically they should’ve won. In other words – it happens to everyone.
Another lesson the team is trying to adapt to their subconscious is to step on the throats of their opponents once they have them down. There has been some slippage back to the natural habit of easing off the gas when blasting out to a lead. Still, for the most part, OKC is remaining focused when ahead and on this occasion at least used their killer instinct to ensure the easy victory.
With that, let’s look at three key takeaways and yes, even some fashion from the game.
