Taking smart shots:

For as much as the defense has shown palpable growth the offense has equally been impressive. More specifically, shot selection and where the team is running their offense.

When OKC lost four games to start the season inefficient shooting and a lack of floor spacing became the great big blue elephant in the room. While these issues persist the squad has seemingly found at least partial resolution.

Although this squad is likely never going to be among the best perimeter shooters, at least if they can be smart about when they take those shots it should increase their efficiency. Some nights (like Wednesday) OKC gains even greater advantages in the paint when the outside shot is falling.

In this match, each of Paul George (5 of 11), Jerami Grant (3 of 5), Dennis Schroder (3 of 5), Raymond Felton (2 of 4), Hamidou Diallo (1 of 1) and Deonte Burton (1 of 2) shot effectively from deep. Still, there will be nights when the majority of those players won’t shoot well from the perimeter. Taking the lessons learned about ball/player movement and shot selection learned during this easier competition will help to build the right habits.
