Most OKC Thunder players have nicknames so with Russell Westbrook’s naming his twin daughters Skye and Jordyn it got TI to thinking about some of the best.

Russell Westbrook and his wife, Nina, had the pleasure to welcome twins into their family Saturday night. Their decision to name the two beautiful girls Skye and Jordyn made us think, what are some of the best nicknames in NBA and OKC Thunder history?

Westbrook’s naming of his daughters Skye and Jordyn implies they could’ve been influenced by his sport. Air Jordan is one of the most ubiquitous nicknames in the NBA. Therefore the possibility exists it is no coincidence the OKC Thunder star decided to base his daughter name on one of the most influential basketball players ever. Likewise, Skye summons visions of The Brodie flying through the air for a power dunk.

It got me reflecting on some of the most famous nicknames in NBA and OKC Thunder history.

The Historic Notables

When thinking of NBA nicknames, there are a few that come to mind right away.

The Mailman: This was the nickname given to Karl Malone, due to his ability to deliver in clutch situations.

The Answer: Allen Iverson earned this nickname through his ability to answer the opposing team’s buckets with big shots of his own.

Wilt the Stilt: Wilt Chamberlain was one of the strongest and most unstoppable players in the NBA, thus earning this nickname.

Magic: Magic Johnson became so mainstream, people are more aware of his nickname than his actual name, Ervin. This nickname developed due to his amazing court vision and flashy play style.

OKC Thunder Notables

Despite the Thunder not having the most well known nicknamed players in the league, they provide us with some fun and factual names for some of our favorite OKC players.

Mr. Thunder: Starting off with the original “Mr. Thunder”, Nick Collison.

Nick was never a star, but throughout his career with the Thunder organization, he has been known for his loyalty and being someone who displayed the qualities of a prototypical OKC Thunder player.

More from Thunderous Intentions

PG-13: After changing his number from 24 to 13 during his stint with the Pacers, Paul George has cemented his nickname as PG-13. Let’s not forget, when the playoffs come around, he strictly goes by “Playoff P”

The Brodie: Russell Westbrook has many different nicknames dubbed to his name, but the Brodie seemed to stick the best. While trying to find the history behind this nickname, I learned that Brodie is actually the name of Westbrook’s dog and later translated to his nickname on the court.

The Big Kiwi: How can we forget Steven Adams? Hailing from New Zealand a kiwi is a bird distinct to the country. As per Wikipedia ”Kiwis” came to mean the men of New Zealand regiments.

Other Historic OKC Nicknames

Patrick Patterson: 2Pat

Terrance Ferguson: T-Ferg
