OKC Thunder fall to Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks 105-103 in wild finish
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night thanks to the poor play of Russell Westbrook.
Despite a 36 point night from Paul George, the OKC Thunder couldn’t get the job done on the road falling 105-103 to the Dallas Mavericks. Russell Westbrook struggled all night long, limping to nine points on 4-22 shooting and missed a game-winning three at the buzzer.
Both teams lost a shooting guard for the game tonight as the Dallas Mavericks were without Wesley Matthews tonight and the OKC Thunder missed Alex Abrines for yet another game due to illness this season. After he was originally in the starting line up, Terrance Ferguson was a late scratch with a stomach illness of his own.
The Mavericks came into tonight with a 3-7 record in their last ten games, including a six-game losing streak in that time frame. On Friday night the Mavericks lost an emotional game when Dennis Smith Jr. could not even get a shot off on time against the Pelicans. The Thunder got back on track with a win over the Suns on Friday, so these two teams entered today on the opposite sides of the spectrum.
Like the Mavericks debuted their new City jerseys against the Thunder earlier in the year, the OKC Thunder debuted their new (old?) Sunset “earned” jerseys against the Mavericks tonight.
The Dallas Mavericks have struggled to take care of the basketball this season, and against the best defense in the NBA, tonight was no different.
After taking a two-point lead heading into the break, the Thunder fell apart in the third quarter, stop me if you’ve heard that before.
Paul George had a rough night defensively, which is something you can not say often though tonight it rings true as Luka Doncic just went off and had 20 points before the third quarter was even over.
A forgettable game for Russell Westbrook, like most of this season, has been, saw him go 0-for-8 from three, but somehow have the ball in his hands for the final shot of the game.
The OKC Thunder were outplayed and outcoached tonight in Dallas.
