The OKC Thunder meets the LA Lakers for the first time this season. T.I. preview the match with keys to winning and game specifics.

With 36 games in the books, the OKC Thunder arguably entered the New Year with their most complete, cohesive win of the season. Sure, there have been other blowouts and important statement wins, but the victory over the Mavericks showcased precisely who this squad could be at their best. (More on this below.)

As the Thunder prepare for their first game of 2019 they travel to Los Angeles to face the Lakers for the first of three meetings this season. Notably, this isn’t a typical one of 82 contest.

First of all, these aren’t the same Lakers who OKC has a storied playoff history against. Rather, this is the revamped Lakers club who boast the best player in the world on their roster. LeBron James “Decision 3.0” to join the Lakers was the worst kept secret in basketball. Although it wasn’t a given James would land in LA, most basketball analysts and media did anticipate this move given James interest in film and entertainment. Three days ago James turned 34 and is in the 16th year of his pro career.

For the entirety of last season Thunder Nation had to deal with the Lakers fan base who were sure Paul George would be joining the King back in his home town. In the games played at Staples George was met with signs, adoration, and fans chanting his name. It will be interesting to see how this fan base reacts tonight now that PG13 spurned their recruitment to remain in OKC.

Furthermore, both George and Russell Westbrook are native Los Angeleans and each star has a tendency get up for their home town games.

However, the biggest storyline entering tonight is LeBron James likely won’t be in the lineup after straining his groin during the Christmas Day game versus the Warriors. He’s missed three games since with the young Lakers winning once (comeback victory versus the Kings). Although James took some shots yesterday on the practice court he’s not expected to play tonight.

With that, let’s dive into the keys to winning for the OKC Thunder.
