Alternate three-way trade

This trade scenario is less than ideal since OKC send Terrance Ferguson to Phoenix.

Massive haul for Phoenix

This is a tremendous deal for Phoenix who gets a host of defensive-minded pieces to surround Devin Booker. Aside from acquiring Smith from Dallas, Terrance Ferguson has made huge strides as a defender whose offensive game remains untapped.

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is a throw-in and may find himself some playing time in Arizona after being glued to OKC’s bench with no opportunity in sight.

Dallas take a chance on Bender

Besides acquiring promising wing Josh Jackson and shooting guard Alex Abrines, Dallas takes a chance on power forward Dragan Bender. The 21-year-old stretch-forward has received no opportunity in Phoenix this season and needs a change of scenery.

The Mavs love European player thus this could be a match made in heaven. Dallas receives a future second-round pick as a sweetener in the deal.

OKC swap defense for offense

The Thunder receives its scorer moving forward in T.J. Warren. While defense isn’t Warren’s forte, OKC’s team defensive system will help the young forward and mask some of his deficiencies on that end of the floor.
