The NBA trade deadline is drawing nearer. And with the OKC Thunder possibly going to be in the mix, here are the franchise’s top-five deals made at the deadline.
“Woj-bomb” season is officially upon us, as the NBA trade quickly approaches. Rumors will continue to swirl and debates will intensify, as we can only speculate until February 7 when Adrian Wojnarowski breaks Twitter with the latest trades.
This year, the OKC Thunder are buyers and have a glaring need to acquire a shooter, among other things. The challenge will be doing it without going further into the luxury tax, so finding the right seller will be key.
The good news is Thunder GM Sam Presti is one of the best in the business and has been known for working miracles. Even with hindsight being 20/20, the good has far outweighed the bad when it comes to Presti’s moves at the trade deadline. He’s made several key acquisitions for the franchise under pressure in the past, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in the near future.
Although none of the moves Presti made ended up being enough to put the Thunder on top, he’s put the team in prime position to win for a decade. And as a general manager, that’s really all you can do.
So with the deadline drawing nearer, here’s a list of the top-five trades Oklahoma City has made at the deadline. All things considered, this list is a perfect reminder of how amazing Presti has been for the team. While many teams opt to tank for a brighter future and put all their eggs in one basket, Presti has been able to build a contending team without the need of lottery picks every year. In today’s game, that’s an accomplishment to be proud of.
