Trading places: OKC Thunder top 5 trade deadline deals
Randy Foye:
In an underrated deal during the 2015-16 season, Sam Presti made a move for veteran guard Randy Foye. Presti acquired him from Denver in exchange for Steve Novak, D.J. Augustin and a pair of second-round picks.
Foye played 27 games in the second half of the season and averaged just over five points a game in 20 minutes. It may not sound like much, but scoring 5-10 points off the bench for a contending team is a solid contribution. In fact, had it not been for the Thunder blowing a 3-1 lead to the Warriors, he might have been a part of the franchise’s first championship team. Sorry to bring that up.
Acquiring Foye was a move made to help the team both on and off the floor. In addition to being the guy who could score points in sporadic minutes, his veteran status brought experience to the table needed to make a championship push and be a nice guy to have in the locker room. The team was already a contender as it was, but Presti was hoping Foye could be the low-key move needed to give the team an added boost.
Ultimately, things went south in the playoffs and the franchise took a different turn as a result. Kevin Durant ended up leaving and the Thunder had to take a step back before moving forward again. But at the time, acquiring Foye was a nice move.
