OKC Thunder trade primer: Brooklyn’s expiring deals could upgrade OKC’s roster at the deadline
DeMarre Carroll
2018-19 – $15,400,000
2019-20 – UFA
32-year-old DeMarre Carroll is having a tough season with the Nets averaging 11 points and five rebounds on 39.2 percent shooting and 34.7 percent from three. The veteran has struggled with injury all season long and hasn’t returned the same player he was in 2017-18.
Despite this, Carroll is a solid two-way player looking for a spot on a contender. He’s spent extensive time playing power forward the last two seasons and has found success as a stretch four.
While he has struggled with injury this year, Carroll appears to be rounding into form scoring a season high 22 points (6-13 shooting, 4-6 from three, 6-7 free throws) in Brooklyn’s 145-142 win over the Houston Rockets.
Carroll is still a solid contributor whether it be off the bench or in a spot starting role. Additionally, he would add wing depth after Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot‘s trade to Chicago.
Possible trade
Carroll’s large contract makes acquiring him extremely difficult.
In this transaction, OKC lose depth but receive a player who can fill Abrines and Patterson’s roles off the bench. Raymond Felton would need to agree to a trade just to make money work and the Thunder include a second-round pick to sweeten the deal as Carroll is an expiring deal.
