OKC Thunder trade primer: Misfit roster may result in Magic trade deadline options
How the Magic assets would fit OKC Thunder:
Although I threw Jerian into the mix it’s doubtful he becomes a player Sam Presti eagerly covets (even if he is Jerami’s brother).

Rather, the player who will draw extra looks and who would fit the Thunder is Terrence Ross. The wingman would provide an immediate upgrade for the Thunder and easily fit into the third or fourth scoring option. And, his defense is above average – just put him on a top defensive squad like the Thunder and witness his true potential.
In terms of trades, there are two options the OKC Thunder could use to land Ross. The first would be to exchange the trade exemption picked up from the Carmelo Anthony trade. But, will the Magic be willing to simply send out Ross without gaining assets in return?
This is where things get a little dicey since it would make more sense for the Magic to want assets and/or picks to come in any package for Ross. Additionally, because the Magic own Ross’ bird rights they can give him the best and longest term contract this offseason.
The above trade works on ESPN Trade machine although I’m not sure how keen the Magic would be to land either of these players. Much may depend on the communication between TRoss and the Magic and his indication he wants to return. If Ross would rather compete immediately for a title and indicates he’ll bolt this offseason then the Magic will be open to moving him.
Another option would be to send Orlando their point guard via Dennis Schroder and take back Ross along with another player – perhaps Khem Birch who would allow the Thunder to move on from Patterson as well given Birch’s defensive aptitude. The problem with that scenario is then who runs the Thunder second unit offense?
Food for thought but I’ll be hoping Sam Presti can convince Hammond to take the trade exception for Ross as that offers the best case scenario for OKC.
