OKC Thunder superstar Paul George top-5 games bolster his MVP candidacy
The definitive game:
For my money, the comeback win against Brooklyn on Dec. 5 was the best game of Paul George’s career. Oklahoma City trailed by as many as 23 points before outscoring the Nets 39-19 in the fourth quarter, with 25 of them coming from George, to win 114-112.
Despite only being down by one, George didn’t hesitate in spotting up from beyond the arc. He calmly and confidently put the Thunder up by two with three seconds, which ended up deciding the game. George finished with 47 points, 15 rebounds, four steals, and a block.

The Thunder could have given up at several points within the game, but that’s not how they do things. Russell Westbrook only has one speed and George went deep into his bag of tricks to score 23 points in the fourth quarter. On a side note, this was also the game Westbrook passed Jason Kidd on the all-time triple-double list.
The win was the second of two to begin what became a historic month of January. That game really sparked the excellent and exciting season we’ve been experiencing.
With 28 games remaining on the schedule Paul George has an outside shot to catch the Greek Freak and the Beard. A strong showing today in Houston against Harden would help his cause.
Ultimately, George is clearly more focused on team achievements. Still, if PG continues to be the driving force behind victories not only will the Thunder have a shot of catching the recently flailing Nuggets, but he may well be building the strongest argument he deserves to win MVP.
