OKC Thunder superstars Paul George and Russell Westbrook both added their names to the record books following their efforts in the win over the Timberwolves.
Paul George joined elite company and entered his name in the NBA record books on Sunday with his perimeter shooting. Although it wasn’t a particularly efficient day for the star who shot 4 of 13 from deep, the four 3-point shots he did make comprised a record breaking stat.
Those 3-pointers moved the needle for PG to 288 total perimeter shots made this season which ranks as the fifth most 3-pointers made in one season.
Looking at the names who rank among the top 10 Stephen Curry makes the list on five occasions. His 402 perimeter makes in 2015-16 ranks first.
The interesting stat is Curry (350 -3rd), Harden (368 – 2nd) and George (288 – 5th) all enter the top five on the list for their efforts this season.
More triple-double history for Westbrook:

- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Russell Westbrook also made more history on Sunday in the matinee in Minnesota. With his 32nd triple-double of the 2018-19 season, Westbrook surpassed Wilt Chamberlain for sole possession of third most triple-doubles in a single season. Westbrook also sits atop this list with 42 triple-doubles in his MVP season of 2016-17. He shows up again on the top 10 list in seventh for his 25 triple-doubles in 2017-18.
Nestled in between Russ at the top of the list and his now third rank is the Big O, Oscar Robertson who had 41 triple-doubles in 1961-62.
In terms of total triple-doubles amassed Westbrook continues to add to his ongoing total. With this 32nd he sits with 136 over his career which ranks third all-time. Only Magic Johnson (138) and Oscar Robertson (181) rank ahead of him.
With two games remaining this season theoretically Westbrook could tie Magic this season but it’s an easy bet he’ll move past the Lakers former superstar next season for sole possession of the second most triple-doubles all-time.
As for the top name on the list, it’s likely Russ has a few years of work left to accumulate another 46 trip-dubs to overtake the top spot and the Big O.
