Terrance Ferguson cites summer of growth in OKC Thunder exit interview
Terrance Ferguson addressed the media at his OKC Thunder exit interview with emphasis placed on his plans for development this offseason.
While some young players battle to earn minutes on the court the OKC Thunder shooting guard Terrance Ferguson ended up finding his role vastly increased due to the injury of Andre Roberson. That’s not to imply he didn’t earn his minutes or improve his game. He did. If not for his defensive improvements and concerted effort to increase his perimeter efficiency his role in the starting rotation wouldn’t have been a certainty.
Billy Donovan could just as easily have moved Paul George to the shooting guard, moved Jerami Grant to the small forward and started Patrick Patterson at the power forward. So, it’s not like there weren’t options.
Credit Terrance Ferguson for his work in the offseason. This offseason is even more important as the Thunder greatest takeaway from the season and playoffs is the absolute necessity for their contracted assets to become better shooters.
TFerg already has a step up on many of his roster mates having shot 36.6 percent from deep this season on close to four attempts per game. That efficiency placed Ferguson behind only Grant and George. Many on his team envision a larger role for the youngster especially if he develops the other aspects of his game and his consistency.
The other main area TFerg needs to develop is his ball handling, facilitating and ability to create not only his own shot but for others. He’ll get some assistance in that regard from Uncle Raymond Felton this summer.
Ferguson also noted the need to add strength and muscle given his lanky frame. Knowing Andre Roberson has stated he’ll be ready for training camp should provide all the inspiration Ferguson needs.
