Monty Williams – the Russell Westbrook whisperer?

Williams spent the 2015-16 season on the OKC Thunder coaching staff, and it was well reported how much Westbrook respects him. The same has been said about current OKC Thunder assistant Maurice Cheeks.

My stance on this has always been that the OKC Thunder have gotten in too deep to reel Russell Westbrook in. He is the heart and soul of the city, fanbase, team, and organization. To step in and try to change his ways as a 30 year old is not going to work. However, you also can not just stop trying which is why I am for and understand the sentiment that current Thunder head man Billy Donovan should be fired.

My biggest hesitation is the fact that both these guys have already been on the staff. All the negative things you hope Russell Westbrook will fix eventually, though time is running out if it has not already run out, has likely been spouted at him by both Williams and Cheeks.

The message apparently has not taken, so the hope would be one of these two guys sliding one seat on the bench over and making it click with Westbrook?

However, there is another side to that argument. For Cheeks, Westbrook has made considerable changes in the last two seasons, and maybe Cheeks as the head authority figure could have Westbrook put it all together.
