May 7 features OKC Thunder working out Iowa freshman guard Joe Wieskamp, 5 goals for the offseason and Blazers fans still throwing shade at Westbrook.
In the news for May 7 serves up some a great variety of topics including draft prospects the OKC Thunder have interest in, key goals for the offseason and Blazer fans still thinking about Russell Westbrook although they’ve played four games since sending the Thunder fishing.
OKC Thunder begins prospect workouts:
Unlike many teams in the Association finding out who the Thunder are looking at as potential draft picks isn’t an easy task. Much like the way Sam Presti conducts all franchise business, in general, he holds all his cards close to his vest and that includes who the team is working out.
Fortunately, occasionally a prospect’s coach or local news will leak information which was the case with Iowa freshman Joe Wieskamp. Hawkeye Insider David Eickholt advises the workout will occur this coming Sunday. Wieskamp’s stats for the 2018-19 season were 11.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 35 appearances. This might not be major news since Weiscamp may just be testing the water to garner franchises interest or determine the areas he needs to improve. This seems to be the case for Weiskamp as Eickholt details in his article.
"Players who applied for early entry have the right to withdraw their names from consideration for the Draft by notifying the NBA of their decision in writing no later than 5 p.m. ET on Monday, June 10. Under NCAA rules, in order to retain college basketball eligibility, underclassmen who have entered the 2019 Draft must withdraw by Wednesday, May 29."
Blazers fans haven’t moved on:
The Moda Center has to register in the top five most difficult opposing courts to play on. And while some fans take it too far the Trail Blazers fans don’t necessarily fall in that category. Rather, there a fanbase who gets behind their players. But, don’t make them made because apparently, they have a tough time letting go of grudges.
In fairness, it’s not like the OKC Thunder fans at Chesapeake Energy Arena have forgiven Patrick Beverley for the questionable shot (read: dirty play) he delivered to Russell Westbrook ending his postseason in Game 2 of the 2012-13 season.
As per Royce Young’s tweet there was a fan at the recent Blazers-Nuggets game who listed the enemy pecking order with two OKC Thunder players ahead of Denver’s Nikola Jokic. Felton still earns the ire of Portland fans for showing up overweight in the 2011-12 season and Blazers fans took umbrage with that.
Hey, I kept saying we should send Felton to get donuts this season so am I any better? I will say since learning Felton was actively helping the youngsters on the Thunder so I’ve eased up a bit on the shade, but Raymond if you do return next season could you please show up in shape?

5 goals for the offseason:
Our sister site Hoops Habit serves up a great article by Jacob Kniffen offering five key areas the OKC Thunder need to address this offseason.
"In other ways, this summer may be general manager Sam Presti’s most difficult in recent memory. How does he take a team with its core intact — while deep in the luxury tax — and improve it to reach its ceiling?"
Check out the article as it offers up great points many of which TI has cited as priorities as well.
