The OKC Thunder will not take Jordan Bone in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft. Should Sam Presti consider buying into the second round as an option?
Jordan Bone is a 21 year old guard from the University of Tennesse who had an interesting college career. Bone flashed his NBA level potential more than a few times throughout his career with the Volunteers, but in big moments he left a lot to be desired. Could he be worth a shot for the OKC Thunder?
Bone has a chance to return to play for the Tennessee Volunteers for his Senior season but after his stellar NBA Combine in Chicago, it is hard to picture him returning to school.
Bone cannot raise his draft stock any more than he already has, even if he lights up the South Eastern Conference during his Senior Campaign, Bone will be a year older which counts against him in the NBA ranks as Front Office Brass see the older you are with the absence of upside.
There have been older point guards to make it from the second round to potential starting level point guards. Frank Mason, Jalen Brunson, just to name a few. While a starting level position for those guys is admittedly a product of the team constructs they had, you can find older guards in the second round to provide value. Deonte Graham, Jevon Carter, just to name a few from last years rookie class.
Buying into the second round and taking a shot on Jordan Bone could provide roster flexibility that the OKC Thunder desperately need.
