OKC Thunder Lightning Report: Jerami Grant’s breakout season

Tunnel vision
Perhaps a bigger reason he’s not still quite a reliable option, though, might be his tunnel vision which puts him in those bad positions around the rim, to begin with. For all the progress he’s made as a ball-handler – and he’s made a lot – he’s yet to figure out when to pass and when to keep attacking.
He’ll have a few moments per game where instead of hitting a wide-open shooter, he’ll try to force up a shot that’s not going in. Watch how he faces up against Derrick Favors, darts to the basket, doesn’t recognize a wide-open Terrance Ferguson in the corner and takes a bad reverse layup:
It would be one thing if this were just limited to his drives, but he does it in so many situations that I don’t blame Billy Donovan for holding off on giving Grant a bigger role in the offense even though he has so much raw talent. There’s a lot of room for him to improve going into next year, but unless he starts shoring these problems up, it’s tough to see him making a real leap.
