Statistical comparison:

Review of Deonte Burton’s seasonal statistics highlight his strengths and the areas where he could improve.

Deonte Burton appeared in 32 games with the varsity squad averaging 2.6 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 7.5 minutes.

Fans who followed the OKC Blue and G-League got a better idea of the forwards potential as he recognized 16.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 29.3 minutes per game. So – yeah – a toolbox of goodies.

As noted, Deonte didn’t often get opportunities to showcase his assets and rarely had extended minutes on the court. Thus is the life of a reserve player. Whether the herky jerky playing time affected his efficiency is another matter all together.

Burton started in 22 of his 24 appearances with the OKC Blue and his statline is far more impressive. Certainly, the efficiency issues are still on display as his similar perimeter numbers showcase. It could be said the easier competition in the G-League is the reason Burton performed at a better clip, but he also shot from the free throw stripe at a higher level so there is credence to the fact his playing time did affect his flow.

Advanced Stats:

The clear difference between the OKC Blue and the varsity squad is his overall effectiveness. While Burton failed to produce a positive box score on either side of the hardwood with the Thunder the reverse is true of him in the G-League.

Obviously, the quality of your lineup and the opposition faced affects these numbers, but logically so too would the lack of cohesion and rhythm of these lineups.
