Deonte Burton player review: Revised role should clear path to increased minutes in 2019-20
In closing:
Burton gave about five different answers on whether he would be at Summer League but the gist was he hopes to be. At only 6’5″ he is somewhat of an oddity in the Presti era since Sam tends to prefer long, lanky players but the goal is to play Burton at the power forward.

Burton also gave the G-League a ringing endorsement speaking of how much he enjoyed it and said people aren’t aware but there is a ton of talent in the G-League. Note to Sam Presti: you have open roster spots to fill up on the cheap – better go look at the G-League stars.
Maybe I just have a proclivity for Marquette players (see Dwyane Wade) but I’ve loved Burton’s game from the minute I laid eyes on him. He has this old school quality to him and much like a Nick Collison type you just know he’s a solid guy who puts the team first. I look forward to his development with the Thunder.
To that end, here’s my first hot take for next seasons OKC Thunder. I predict Burton will be a vital cog in the revitalized reserve unit and a consistent producer which will help the bench become more productive overall offensively.
Of course, the key to that hot take is Billy Donovan has to play him!
