OKC Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook nets two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards nominations
OKC Thunder Russell Westbrook picks up two nominations for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards proving his popularity among the younger generation.
In past seasons Russell Westbrook has often dominated awards shows with multiple nominations and wins. Although this season wasn’t an MVP year or one the OKC Thunder are walking away satisfied with Westbrook still ranks among the NBA favorites of kids.
His on court prowess nets him two nominations. Writer Kimberly Nordyke of The Hollywood Reporter details the nominees and categories in the event Michael Strahan returns to host. The event will be televised on August 10th at 8:00 p.m. EST on Nickelodeon.
Sickest Moves:
The on court nomination Westbrook is nominated for also finds NBA talent Trae Young of the Hawks getting the tap while their competition is NWSL stars Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd, NFL star Saquon Barkley. as well as MLS star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
King of Swag:
This category could be considered more of an offcourt award, but there is also an argument for the swag these athletes bring to live action. Westbrook’s competition for this award are fellow NBA peers the Rockets James Harden and 76ers Jimmy Butler. Their competition is Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, plus two NFL stars Odell Beckham Jr. and Travis Kelce.
Other categories where NBA stars are represented include:
Favorite Basketball Player: An all hoops category features WNBA star Breanna Stewart and NBA hoopsters Giannis Antetokounmpo, James Harden, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Nothing But Net: a predominant basketball category features nominees Rockets James Harden, Raptors Kawhi Leonard, and Warriors Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson with an NHL star John Tavares and soccer/football (depending on how you term the sport) Lionel Messi.
Favorite Male Athlete: Lakers LeBron James and Warriors Stephen Curry
Biggest Powerhouse: LeBron James and Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo
Clutch Player of the Year: Stephen Curry gets his second nod, joining Rockets James Harden and Warriors Kevin Durant.
On a side note it’s interesting some of the NBA best clutch time performers missed the cut like OKC Thunder Paul George, Raptors Kawhi Leonard, Celtics Kyrie Irving or Hornets Kemba Walker. Then again, these awards are often representative of the category and the player’s popularity. For what it’s worth Harden, Curry, and Durant finished 5th,10th, and 15th in scoring in clutch time as per NBA stats.
Favorite Break Out Star: Mavericks Luka Doncic
