Mock Draft 3.0 – Predicting how the dominoes fall, with view to fit, shifts, and OKC Thunder best bet
Memphis arrives to draft night in full on rebuild and solidified that fact by trading Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, June 19th. As per Adrian Wojnarowski:
"The Memphis Grizzlies have traded guard Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz for Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver and Jae Crowder, the 23rd pick in Thursday’s draft and a future first-round pick, league sources told ESPN."
With the Conley trade, the Grizzlies clear the way to immediately put the ball in Ja Morant’s hands and let their young core grow together. It also may make way for the Grizzlies to retain lengthy backup Delon Wright to pair alongside Morant or function in the reserve point guard role. Ironically, the longest serving Grizzly is now Chandler Parsons who has never risen to meet the expectations Memphis had when they acquired his services.
After years of clinging to the Grit and Grind era of Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, and Tony Allen the Grizzlies now move into the youth rebuild of Morant, Jaren Jackson and a bevy of youthful assets.
Morant projects to be an exciting point guard along the lines of the OKC Thunder Russell Westbrook and will be given free rein to put his stamp on the new era Memphis Grizzlies.
the thinking is the Grizzlies are committed to moving on from the initial Grit and Grind era of which only Conley remains.
