OKC Thunder

Notably, the OKC Thunder became part of a rare situation when a WOJ Bomb stated Nerlens Noel had accepted an offer to return. Shortly after it was deemed that wasn’t true. Later, another tweet by Adrian Wojnarowski said Noel had requested time to re-evaluate the offer.

First of all, Woj sending out news which turns out to be inaccurate is a rarity. The three team deal with the Heat, 76ers, and Mavericks also became a situation of perhaps agents reporting a deal was complete prior to all the I’s were dotted and T’s crossed.

To say this was an unusual situation would be an understatement. Arguably, this is more a matter of the social media era where the news gets into the universe exponentially faster than previous generations.

Moving forward, we’ll have to await updates today or late this week on whether Noel and the OKC  Thunder are progressing and whether signing Muscala will interfere with the original offer from a salary standpoint.

For the moment, the OKC Thunder while not among the extremely active teams at least were active and added a perimeter shooter.

July 8: Given the Paul George trade OKC spoke with both recent free agents Mike Muscala and Alec Burks in an effort to be transparent and give them an opportunity to sign elsewhere if desired. Muscala chose to stay and Burks elected to sign with the Warriors instead.

July 11: The end of the franchise initial era is over as Russell Westbrook is traded to the Houston Rockets. Although everyone knew it was coming it was no less heartbreaking once formalized.

August 1: OKC buyout Patrick Patterson contract (who plans to sign with Clippers once he clears waivers).

OKC Thunder 2019 free agents:

Raymond Felton
Deonte Burton (Restricted – $1M of $1.4 contract becomes guaranteed August 1st)
Jawun Evans (now unrestricted)

  • Mike Muscala agrees to deal with Thunder (Presume 2-year with opt out, $4.31M)

  • Jerami Grant traded to Nuggets in return for a 2020 first round pick on July 8
  • In a shocking turn of events, Paul George was traded to the Clippers on July 6 after requesting the trade just one year after re-signing with the Thunder.
  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari return as part of Geoge trade, July 6
  • Also part of the trade copious draft picks as per Marc Stein tweet, July 6
