Top 5 areas of focus for Sam Presti to consider during Summer League
Playmaking and 3-point shooting:
The areas of gravest concern for the OKC Thunder at season end were the team’s abysmal shooting efficiency particularly from behind the arc and the absence of playmakers on the team.
Russell Westbrook led the league in assists with Paul George and Dennis Schroder being he only two reliable options at playmaking.
With the loss of George, both items move up the list of ‘need to add’ assets. Despite Westbrook’s playmaking prowess, the loss of George will make it easier for squads to focus on limiting his passing lanes and subsequently affect the team’s offense which already had issues with getting stuck in quicksand.
It’s critical for the club to have multiple players on the floor who can create shots for themselves as well as for others. Although we repeatedly stated ball and player movement were issues of the Thunder, George’s exit will likely make those glaring weaknesses even more evident.
To that end, keep an eye on whether any OKC Thunder Vegas attendees can help plug these holes.
