Dennis Schroder:
Dennis Schroder, like Paul, might also be considered a negative asset at this point. His contract and age are not nearly as high as Paul’s but I don’t think you could get positive value in return on a deal.
With a lot of contracts in the league frozen until December (free agents signed this summer can’t be traded till then) and with no rumored interest yet in Schroder, it’s hard to find a trade for him you which could realistically happen.
Because of that, I see the Orlando Magic as a potential landing spot for Schroder. After the worst five year stretch in team history, the Magic fired their GM Rob Hennigan, which is why they’ve made it back to the playoffs only two years later and seemingly have a competent front office all a sudden.
Their new, smart, regime might see Schroder as a negative or might not, but I see a simple swap of players that could help both sides.
The Magic would require a point guard for the next two seasons which is key since DJ Augustin is a free agent next summer and the Thunder will be swapping a point guard who will either, start over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and stunt his growth, or, be upset at the fact he’s playing behind a second-year guard. The Thunder gets back a young shooting guard who has shown shooting upside in the past and is almost a perfect salary match.
