A positive year for the OKC Thunder by Dennis Schroder is highlighted by his happiness off the hardwood as he welcomes his first child and gets married.

It’s been quite a year for new OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder who was traded this past season as part of the deal which sent Carmelo Anthony and his massive “untradeable” contract to the Atlanta Hawks. The German point guard arrived in OKC knowing he would be playing a backup role to superstar Russell Westbrook and embraced that role.

He spent the season leading the bench unit and was often on the court for pivotal clutch time minutes playing alongside Westbrook and George.

Overall his effect on his teammates was positive although we whine here at T.I. sometimes that we wish he’d involve his teammates more on a whole it’s hard not to cite his season as anything other than a successful campaign. Schroder averaged 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.

As per his shooting although his perimeter efficiency (34.1 percent) could use a shot in the arm the point guard was one of the best free throw shooters on the team (81.9) and got to the line 2.9 times per game. Without Westbrook in the mix surely Billy Donovan will want Schroder to capitalize on this asset by getting to the charity stripe more in the coming season.

Given the exit of Russell Westbrook, Schroder may not have to adapt much especially since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be the new cornerstone piece who the OKC Thunder build around. And, with the expectation Chris Paul will likely start the season in OKC, it will be interesting how Schroder fits into this new iteration of the Thunder.

Bliss off the court:

For as much as Schroder reveled in his role on his new squad his success off the hardwood was even more delightful as he welcomed his first child into the world in February and got married this past week to his lovely wife Ellen.

Like Russell Westbrook before him, Dennis is getting his little man Dennis Jr. involved in the sport of basketball early. Well, at least in terms of exposing him to being a part of the team. As per his wife’s Instagram as noted below there are more pictures of DJ sporting Nike foot wear and even one with him wearing a Jordan jersey.

Dennis Jr. or more accurately Dennis Malick Schroder was born in February to proud papa Dennis and mom Ellen. A scan of new wife Ellen’s Instagram offers ample baby pictures which the new Mom proudly displays.

There is an entire Instagram story dedicated to Dennis Jr. and it has to be said this little guy is one of the happiest babies I’ve ever seen. Perhaps the couple has chosen not to show any pictures of him crying – but DJ sure seems to be happy, content and engaged with his surroundings in almost every picture. One thing is for sure, he’s cute as a button and his sneaker collection is already better than most of ours!

While Dennis prepares this offseason for what the new look OKC Thunder will bring to the court his life off the hardwood is about as happy and fulfilling as one could wish for.
