Cumulative moves to date:

While losing franchise players Paul George and Russell Westbrook as well as a key role player in Jerami Grant, OKC made out of this offseason with plenty of ammo and assets for the future.

More from Thunderous Intentions

The Thunder were stuck at a crossroads, they were never quite good enough to win a title but were destined to always make the playoffs. With almost no valuable assets and a capped out team, the solution that OKC management and fans had to face was it might be time to tear it down and start over.

With the draft picks and swaps picked up the Thunder may have 15 first-round picks and four swaps through 2026 as well as players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari, OKC set themselves up as essentially a blank canvas.

OKC currently don’t have the young talent of the Nuggets, Grizzlies or Mavericks, they have the pieces to become one of the most exciting young teams in the league if they draft well. While I wished OKC made a few different decisions in free agency, their main objective was to re-sign Nerlens Noel, which they did.

Although Sam Presti was backed into a corner with the George and Westbrook trade requests, he made out of all this drama the best possible way he could, giving OKC plenty of ammo to make their next title contender.
