No. 26: Toronto Raptors – The Raptor
Cookie-cutter mascot name for a cookie-cutter mascot. No offense to Toronto fans, but the Raptor is just a raptor that somewhat resembles the teams’ old logo. And for those not in the know at the time the team was added to the league Jurassic Park was all the rage hence why it ended up beating out other names such as the Toronto Towers or the Toronto Huskies (which was the original team name as members of the 1946-47 Basketball Association of America).
The Raptor always presents himself as a hungry for competition mascot. As for the Raptor’s design, it is very simplistic and not challenging at all. Red from head to toe. If you want a mascot by the numbers without much thought or creativity, this is the mascot for you.
I totally 100 percent attribute Toronto’s recent success to the Raptor and his lackadaisical role as Toronto’s mascot. I anticipate the rest of the league will follow suit.
To me, Raptor is as outdated as a dinosaur. Even though his inconsistent dinosaur size may be the reason he’s one of the best dunking mascots in the NBA.
