No. 8: Utah Jazz – Jazz Bear
Although his name is uninspired, his performances are anything but. Jazz bear has a certain coolness to his character. I love mascots who wear basketball accessories. Jazz bear rocks his Utah Jazz headband with pride, and I respect that tremendously.
My primary issue with the Jazz bear is his attitude. For a mascot with the word jazz in his name, you’d think he’d be a lot smoother around fans. I think Jazz Bear is in need of a hair trimming and some anger management classes. He certainly isn’t fond of fans from opposing teams as the video above demonstrates.
Then again the Jazz may be thinking the same thing as the original Jazz Bear (Jon Absey) was fired by the franchise in October of this past campaign after appearing in over 800 games since his inception in 1994. We’ll see if the new Jazz is a kinder gentler Bear.
