No. 23: Boston Celtics – Lucky the Leprucan Leprechaun
Lucky is probably my least favorite NBA mascot design-wise, but his archaic design is an extreme disservice to the amazing mascot Lucky really is. As a fearless dunker and a genuinely nice fella, Lucky is a cornerstone of the prestigious Celtics legacy.
Unfortunately, unlike the actual Boston team, Lucky’s design hasn’t innovated much. I think it’s time for an update, Lucky should be free to rock a jersey and some jeans like the rest of us.
He dresses exactly how Lucky dresses in the original Celtics’ logo, which feels almost as old as the NBA itself. Then again, this is the same franchise who is steeped in legacy.
When the team moved from the old Boston Gardens to (what was the Fleet Center now retitled) TD Garden the team brought a piece of the legacy with them via the parquet floor as portions of that parquet were interlaced into the flooring at the new arena.
So, perhaps Lucky who is over 50 years old is reflective of that legacy too.
