The mutual love affair between Russell Westbrook and OKC Thunder fan base continues as the superstar announces Zero Regrets t-shirt series to thank OKC.

After 11 seasons with the OKC Thunder, one pregame image is engrained in our minds. That’s when Russell Westbrook runs to a corner of Chesapeake Arena, claps his hands and pumps up the crowd. It’s still unfathomable for me to imagine that won’t happen on October 25 when the Thunder host their first home game of the 2019-20 season.

Just over a month has passed since Westbrook was traded to the Houston Rockets but it still doesn’t feel real. Last week when the NBA regular season schedules were released the first thing I looked for was the second game the Rockets would play in OKC. Sadly, that won’t happen, at least not in the 2019-20 season.

Prior to the schedule being released leaks let Thunder Nation know Westbrook’s first trip back to play in Oklahoma City would be on January 9. It feels like an inordinately long time to wait, but perhaps that’s a good thing as the sting of losing him won’t feel as sharp by January. Unfortunately, that game will be the only opportunity the fanbase will have next season to see the Brodie at the Peake. Talk about a hot ticket!

Every club plays its own division foes four times and every opposite conference team twice. Of the remaining 10 Western Conference opponents, four of the teams play three times while the other six play the full four games each hosting two occasions. Unfortunately, the Rockets are one of those four teams the Thunder play just three times. Even worse two of the three contests are in Houston. Westbrook, James Harden, and the Rockets will host the OKC Thunder at the Toyota Center on October 28th and January 20th.

On the heels of this news, Russell Westbrook served up a reminder of how special he is to the Thunder fans and OKC in general. He’s released a T-Shirt series via his Honor the Gift brand. The shirts retail for $48.00 and can be purchased on his Honor the Gift website. Like most of his merchandise, the shirts will likely sell out immediately.

The “Zero Regrets” t-shirt is aimed at Westbrook’s tenure with the Thunder. At the top of the website it notes Zero Regrets with accompanying copy:

"Together we built 11 years of dedication, self belief, growth, gratitude, and family. I have Zero Regrets. Thank you Oklahoma."

As you can see in the tweet from Westbrook’s Twitter account and on his Instagram account in the stories section you can see the front and back of the shirt in the two colors. Of note the back of the shirts say:

  • 1 team
  • 11 seasons
  • 821 games
  • 28,330 minutes
  • 18,859 points
  • 6,897 assists
  • 5,760 rebounds
  • 138 triple-doubles
  • 8 x All-Star
  • 1 x MVP
  • 0 Regrets

The front of the shirts simply reads “Thank you Oklahoma”.

In just over two months the regular season tips off and OKC Thunder fans will likely still be processing life without Westbrook.

Even as the team moves forward and the fan base finds new players to cheer and gains respect for rising stars on the team, Westbrook will always hold a place in our hearts.

This Zero Regrets series by Westbrook confirms Thunder Nation and Oklahoma will also always hold a place in his too!
