2K season has reminded us which teams will occupy the populace of the Play Now community, but with the massive offseason changes, where do the OKC Thunder rank among the five teams sleeper teams in NBA 2K20?

As an OKC Thunder fan, one thing I’m not excited about when it comes to NBA 2K20 is team fatigue.

I guarantee you that you can almost immediately glean which popular teams you will encounter each time you play someone online. These are some of the most popular teams in the game and each time you encounter them, the opposing team will play exploitatively or “cheese” with their star players all game.

Following the resurrection of both LA franchises, we can expect to see 2K players flocking to choose them as if they were lifelong fans.

Likewise, Houston, Boston, and Milwaukee will see an exponential increase in players itching to jump on the proverbial bandwagon and use superstar talent to overpower their lesser opponents.

There are so many possibilities and matchups that I’ve been eager to play out in this new game. Your likelihood to win or lose hinges on your team selection. It is relatively easy to go online and pick the best team to win, but it is a lot more rewarding to pick teams that initially appear to be underdogs to upset the competition.

My goal is to give you some insight into five teams that, in the right player’s hands, can beat any team in the game. I will also list three players that will be paramount in securing your victory from each team. Hope to see you online!

No. 5 Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings have a team capable of competing with the higher-rated teams in the league. With a very young and talented roster, they have the perfect mix of youth and veterans. I would see no problem taking this team up against any team in any conference.

De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley, and Harrison Barnes are the key players on this squad. Their speed, versatility, and shooting ability make them a tough matchup for any current team in the league. This team is one I can’t wait to play with to demonstrate how truly dangerous they can be.

No. 4 Utah Jazz

With the addition of Mike Conley Jr. and the continued development of Donovan Mitchell, the Utah Jazz have created a complete team full of diverse specialty players who can excel at numerous different dimensions on both sides of the court.

Joe Ingles, Rudy Gobert, and Donovan Mitchell are the individuals who will do a great deal of heavy lifting on this team. They all are able to put pressure on the opposing team with their length and intensity. The more I look at rosters around the league, the more I find it difficult to identify a more complete team than this one.

No. 3 OKC Thunder

The Thunder are currently being overlooked as a non-starter for the playoffs. Even after so many changes, they still have a team composed of reliable players with a lot of playoff experience. The Thunder have maintained their strategy to continue to improve for the future.

Chris Paul, Steven Adams, and Danilo Gallinari are the main individuals to utilize here. Their scoring will be predominantly focused on executing the in and out game. The Thunder are capable of getting into the paint and with some of the best passing in the league, it will likely lead to a ton of open shots.

No. 2 Dallas Mavericks

The players on the Mavericks roster have a little bit of everything in their bag of tricks, with a high ceiling to improve.

Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Tim Hardaway Jr are the main players who will see the highest usage rates on the team. These three can put up points from all parts of the court. 3-point shooting should be their main weapon of choice and I can see myself racking up excellent releases with Dallas.

No. 1 Indiana Pacers

Before his injury, Victor Oladipo was emerging as one of the best two-way shooting guards in the league. Now with a reloaded roster, Indiana has very high expectations for the team this season. A Pacers roster at full strength has the capacity to dismantle any team in the game.

Victor Oladipo, Myles Turner, and Malcolm Brogdon will be the key difference makers on a defensively driven Indiana team. They hope to make a substantial leap this season with every player working to expand their game. Anyone matching up with this team better be prepared to run.

The true mark of a skilled 2K player is the ability to play with a variety of teams and compete against any opponent. While the 2K proletariat congregates around the highest-rated teams in the game, these teams will continue to be neglected unless players ultimately realize and appreciate their value.
